Seven Corners/After Corps Care: ABSOLUTE FAIL!!!!

I just wanted to take the opportunity to let people who are thinking about joining Peace Corps and/or expecially those who will be COS'ing soon to stay away from Aftercorps Care Insurance. They are absolutely horrible. I have had to fight tooth and nail, and spend countless hours on the phone being transfered to everyone and their moms stating my issues over and over again. And that is coming from a PCV who was never sick through out her service.

Using the 127c forms are relatively easy, so as long as you get those you are good. I'm talking about the option to pay for Seven Corners insurance on your own, that is a big waste of money! They always find a way or some loop hole to get out of paying. I feel like I could have taken my ridiculously priced premium and applied that to the medical services I had done and faired better if I had just paid out of pocket. Just a warning, so that others don't end up in the same boat I didn. If you are able to get on your parent's or school or lucky enough to get a job right away that offeres insurance... take that option!! If you can't afford these other options then just do without seriously Seven Corners insurance is NOT worth it!! They are causing me more medical problems related to stress!!!

  1. I second this. I made several appointments post-service (one of which cleared by PCMO, others were general visits on post plan) and have so far been hassled by each provider claiming my coverage isn't sufficient. I have also received proof of loss forms from aftercorps to authorize the payments. Problem - after the first POL form submitted for the PCMO approved injury, I received additional paperwork stating that I need to submit a FECA accepatance/denial letter. At no point throughout this process did I think FECA came into play. Now I have to call this week and sort this mess out along with tackling the other POL forms. Any suggestions before the madness begins? The bills are pretty overwhelming, and had I known this would have happened I wouldn't have made one single appointment.

Thanks for your post! Looks like your service was excellent.

  2. Yup! Sounds about right! My only suggestion I have for you is to save EVERYTHING!! I have a printer/scanner/copier, which turned out to be my best friend during this process! I can't begin to tell you how many times my claims and paperwork have been "lost" or never received even though I have the Fax reports that said they were. I would scan everything and resend it... the was no way they could argue with me because I had proof and copies of everything.

I also suggest finding one person at the PC medical office to work with. I found one guy who was amazingly helpful. I got his direct desk number as well as personal email. After months of dealing with the switch board this stream lined the process and got things taken care of quickly!

I fought for about 9 months. After a parasite and all the routine stuff was over I didn't end up paying anything out of pocket except for co-pays... If your time is worth it you can eventually work it out.

    Good Luck!
